Well as you may have gathered from my last few blogs, it’s exam time. This leads to several weeks in which the words “I’m going to fail”, “I can’t believe how stressed I am” and “I’m meant to be studying right now” are commonly heard. Week one has just concluded, and there are two more weeks coming up. At the moment I’m thinking that it can only go down hill from here for the student population. Confidence and sure-fire knowledge are in short supply, while caffeine and procrastination techniques are in ever increasing demand. Because of this, I thought it would be fun to write a list outlining the many, many ways in which time can be wasted – in the hopes that somebody out there will be able to avoid them… or discover a new and exciting way to put off their studies.
The following is a list of distractions or ways in which to avoid doing anything useful with your life. (Please note, many of these are taken from my personal circumstances. This reinforces my opinion that I will never function as a proper human being).
1. Facebook
2. Any website that contains memes
3. Online banking. Sometimes you just need to know exactly how much money you could draw out in 5cent pieces.
4. Online air travel websites. You’re not going overseas. You are in the middle of exams. Stop looking.
5. Shopping for food to sustain your snacking
6. Exercising to burn off the snacking
7. Shopping again because you ate all your food and are starving
8. Doing your laundry
9. Doing your dishes
10. Cleaning your room
11. Reorganising your room
12. Dusting
13. Phoning home
14. Discussing how stressful exams are with your housemates
15. Rediscovering your love for ANYTHING. Usually this is something you find you only love when exams happen to be on
17. Reading. Anything. Haven’t you always wondered what’s in your mayonnaise?
18. Venturing outside because you’ve been at your desk so long you can actually feel your body losing vitamin D
19. Texting
20. Calling
21. Skyping
22. Making coffee
23. Chilling round your dining table with half your house at 3am telling ghost stories because none of you can sleep
24. Making small talk round the dining table with half your house because you’re putting off going to bed since the ghost stories freaked you out
25. Writing a blog
27. Venturing aimlessly to a friend’s house to seek moral support
28. Realising you forgot number 26 and deciding not to change it just to see if anyone will notice
29. Vowing to learn all the words to a rap song
30. Declaring “Screw this! I QUIT!” and storming out of whatever room you happen to be in
31. Rolling around on the floor making noises like a dying cat when you realise it’s hopeless and you’ll never remember everything in time
32. Hitting up the town. The weekend’s still the weekend
33. Cleaning and washing your car
34. Informing other people of all the things you don’t know yet
35. Sleeping in because you totally deserve it after the effort you put in last night
36. Spend time discussing how stupid essays are
37. Compare exams because yours is definitely harder than everyone elses!
38. LAST MINUTE CRAM SESSION!
39. Wonder what you were so worried about, it’s all over now
40. Remember you still have several exams left to complete
41. Repeat.
Obviously I could go on. The list is endless and some of the things I find people doing around here are quite entertaining.

Have a good one everybody, study hard and good luck with your exams!
